The ''riser'' (height of each step) should be approx 7'' & the

tread should be approx 9''. Measure the total distance from one floor to

needed. Divide the total distance by that number & you will get the exact

dimension of each riser. Multiply the number of steps needed by 9'' &

that will give you the total space needed for the staircase. For example,  
8' from floor to floor = 96''. 96'' divided by 7'' = 14 steps needed. 96  
divided by 14 = 6 13/16'' as the height for each riser. And 14 x 9'' = 12

There is a standard formula for designing stairs. The formula

is 2A+B=64
