How Can I Dress Up my Stair Stringers - Old Pine Doesn't Match Red Oak Treads & Risers

l have prepped the existing steps by sawing off the tread noses and

purchased prefinished Bella Red Oak to match my floors.

a problem with the stringers as their is wood missing where the old tread

Without seeing ur stairs, I can only toss out some general

ideas - some of which might work better than others, depending on ur

Any place missing wood could be filled in with new wood, or putty, &

stained or painted, as desired.  
 
An oak veneer can be applied, & stained to match the flooring. (A  
matching/coordinating laminate might also be possible).  
 
Decorative trim might be applied - this could be anything from moulding,  
to carvings, etc.  
 
And of course there is always the option to add more solid oak lumber to  
the stairs. Most of the big box home stores sell red oak in a variety of  
widths these days, & even carry red oak stair treads with a bullnose  
already on them.

something more specific.

You can buy luan plywood which is less than 1/4'' thick and  
seabear
recover the risers. Or you could carpet the risers.
